Styles of Music at the Turn of the 21st Century
Music from the 90's to currently 2012, is extremely different from what it was 100 years ago. Jazz and Ragtime are no longer the popular music of the era. Now you have many more styles. You can go from rock to classical, hip-hop to heavy metal, pop music to jazz. Music now is not only a different style but it's made differently. You have instruments that are more advanced now than they were at the turn of the 20th century. Also you have computers to make music, and help edit the sound of the music. Most music now a days is edited, back then you didn't have that. Not only do you have music edited with computers, but you have a total genera of music being made by computers: Dubstep.
Music lyrics changed completely as well. Back then songs weren't full of the anger and angst that musical legends such as Kurt Cobain produced. You have lyrics about what would be racy topics back then, such as homosexuality; sung by women like Lady Gaga. You also have lyrics about things that were around at the turn of the 20th century, but not as talked about musically, such as lyrics of Tupac Shakur. All music is originated from one style or another. They're all connected; whether it be from lyrics, beats, sounds or many other things. All music is linked together. |
