1990’s In the beginning of the 1990’s there was a huge jolt in music genres such as techno (dance or house music) along with hip-hop. That lasted the whole decade and beyond. 1990’s Musicians such as MC Hammer, sung (or rapped) about things like praying for the bettering of society, and how his career rose. But you also had people who thickly laced their music with sexual lyrics and innuendo that seem mild compared to today’s music. 1992-1993 There were many bands such as Pearl Jam and Soundgarden that gave teenagers or “young adults” a new type of music they could relate to that had catchy lyrics and were about the angst and hardships teenagers go through. 1995 After all the angry, angsty music that came out in the early 90’s, there was a new genre of rock born referred to as “happy rock”. Bands such as Hootie and the Blowfish, The Bodeans, and Sister Hazel were an upbeat melody. Their music had a positive outlook with positive lyrics. Many people were ready for this new addition of music after all the negative music that had come out. These bands produced happy relationship and love songs.
1997 Celine Dion sang the song “My Heart Will Go On”. Released on the Titanic soundtrack, and Celine Dion’s album “Let’s Talk About Love” Was made number 1 song in the US, UK, Ireland, and Australia. Late 1990’s In the later half of the 90’s artists such as Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears were on top of all the mainstream pop music scene. The sexual undertone and innuendos were brought back into their songs, but they became more upfront about it than artists were in the early 90’s. Their music videos got more sexual too. 1999 SoundJam MP was released by Casady & Greene. |
2000 SoundJam MP was bought by Apple, and renamed iTunes.
January 9th, 2001 iTunes was released. 2009 Dubstep, or brostep (as it was referred to by some)became big in the music scene. Many argued that it wasn’t actual music, but just people using computers. Its popularity began increasing by great amounts following 2009. Itunes symbol.
